Doppler - Duplex Examination
A Doppler examination uses high-frequency ultrasound waves to detect and examine disorders in the blood vessels. By analyzing the reflected sound waves, the flow speed and direction can be deduced, giving us an idea of the condition of the blood vessels.
Course
Before the examination
You do not need to fast or make any other preparations for a Doppler ultrasound examination.
Please wear comfortable clothing because the legs must be left free during the examination.
Before the examination starts, you will have to rest for five minutes. This allows a reliable rest measurement to be made.
During the examination
The radiologist (doctor) will use the ultrasound probe to check the arteries or veins in the legs, arms, or elsewhere for possible poor blood flow while you lie on the table. In addition, the veins can also be checked for possible blockages (clots) and the like.
The examination takes an average of fifteen minutes.
After the examination
After the examination, the radiologist will make a report of all findings. These results will be discussed afterward with your referring physician.
